Is 3D Printing Mainstream?

My friend Chris bought a 3D printer this year and I thought he was insane.
While our friends were buying iPads, Chris took a more non-traditional approach. But now there’s substantial evidence that suggests he’s ahead of the game. Just like in college, when he programmed websites while many of us (me included) focused on the print world. Maybe that’s why he secured a job at Google upon graduating…
According to ExtremeTech, 3D printing may impact everyday life for a range of users: the military (soldiers can 3D print a tool instead of waiting for a supply drop); companies (easily create prototypes of products), and ordinary consumers (build your own shoe instead of buying one).
The current technology remains too complex for the average consumer, but it’s a little more exciting than a new version of the iPad to keep on our radar.
